About this Bursary
A native of Saint John, and a graduate of St. Malachy’s Memorial High School in 1992, Constable Larche became a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in February, 2002. After starting his career in Doaktown, New Brunswick, he was then transferred to the Codiac detachment in 2006. While working as a plain-clothes officer with the Codiac Major Crime Unit, Constable Larche was killed in the line of duty on June 4th, 2014. He worked as a General Duty member, Highway Patrol, Codiac General Investigation Section, then moved to the Codiac Major Crime Unit. In 2007, he received a Commander’s Commendation for saving the life of a two-week-old infant. A family man, Constable Larche lived for his wife and three daughters. He was an extraordinary father and husband: loving, loyal, funny and selfless. Constable Larche was an avid runner, participating in many races including one full and several half marathons. He is remembered for his work ethic, loyalty, sense of duty, and laid-back humour. Following his passing, friends and family came together to find a way to honour his memory. “We wanted to honour Doug’s memory in a way that would be lasting in the community,” says Fund committee chair Nathan Davis. “He was a great student, he loved to play sports and was very involved in his school. We wanted to create a Fund that would present a bursary to a St. Malachy’s graduate who demonstrates the same type of qualities that Doug had.”
